SCHOOL BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH

Our School Board Members serve as a link between the community and classroom, who are elected to establish the policies which provide the framework for public schools. Their work extends beyond the boardroom, as they attend school events, meet with educators and community leaders, and stay up-to-date on educational issues and legislation. They work tirelessly to ensure that schools are safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments where students can thrive and achieve their full potential. As School Board Appreciation Month comes to a close, let's take a moment to recognize and thank these dedicated individuals for their service to our schools and our community. Their hard work and dedication make a real difference in the lives of our students and families, and we are grateful for all that they do.

Richmond County Schools seek Military-friendly school designation

Fairview Heights Elementary School, Hamlet Middle School and Richmond Senior High hope to receive the North Carolina Purple Star Award. The designation is awarded to schools that demonstrate military-friendly practices and a commitment to military students and families. To qualify, schools must demonstrate a comprehensive approach to addressing the unique needs of military-connected students. This includes implementing supportive policies, offering specialized programs, and fostering a culture of understanding and inclusion. The designation not only recognizes the schools for their efforts but also serves as a valuable resource for military families seeking educational institutions that prioritize their well-being. RCS staff were joined by Howard Lattimore, State Military Consultant, Dr. Shevelle Godwin, and Iris Pirece, School Liason Officers from Fort Liberty to answer any questions and finalize the award applications.

Celebration of the African Diaspora

Richmond Senior High School’s African American Studies classes will be hosting two shows titled Celebration of the African Diaspora in February. “We are excited to present an evening filled with the rhythmic beats of spoken word, soulful poetry, powerful singing, captivating dance performances, and soul-stirring music,” said Arthur Gilliam, RSHS Teacher. This event is a vibrant tribute to the diversity, resilience, and creativity within the African Diaspora in honor of Black History Month. This event promises to be a vibrant celebration of African culture, bringing together a diverse range of performers and showcasing the creativity and talent of RSHS students. Whether you are a lover of music, dance, or spoken word, there is something for everyone at this exciting event.
